Commercial electrical work
Over 15 years of residential and commercial experience: conduit, panelboards and tenant fit-out work done neat and to code.

The work
Neat is a standard, not a style.
Look closely at a good electrician’s work and you can read it: conduit that runs parallel and turns together, wires dressed square in the panel, every circuit tagged. These photos are from Ryan M. Walker Electric’s own work.
That same care goes into a basement subpanel, a fuse box swap in a triple-decker, or a run of conduit across a commercial ceiling.

Local knowledge
Wiring for North Central Mass housing.
Leominster, Fitchburg and Gardner grew up around mills and factories, and their triple-deckers and two-families can hide fuse boxes, ungrounded outlets and circuits shared between rooms. Out in Lunenburg, Sterling and Westminster, it’s lake cottages turned year-round, farmhouses with barns, well pumps and long winters.
Utilities differ town to town too: National Grid in Leominster and Gardner, Unitil in Fitchburg and Lunenburg, and Sterling’s own municipal light department. We work with all of them on service upgrades.

Straight answers
Electrical questions, answered.
35 answers on old wiring, panels, generators, EV chargers, permits and Massachusetts licensing.
All 35 answersIs knob-and-tube wiring still found in Leominster and Fitchburg homes?
Yes, in some older houses, especially pre-1940 triple-deckers, Victorians and farmhouses. It is not automatically dangerous, but it is ungrounded, often has brittle insulation, and has frequently been modified or buried in insulation, which it was never designed for.
If you find it, have it evaluated before insulating, renovating or adding loads. Many insurers ask about it, and replacing it is usually done circuit by circuit.
How do I know if my panel needs an upgrade?
Common signs are no open breaker spaces, breakers that trip frequently, warm or buzzing breakers, a fuse box, or plans for big new loads like a heat pump, EV charger or electric range.
A load calculation shows whether your current service can handle what you have and what you're adding. Sometimes you need a new panel; sometimes you need a larger service; sometimes neither.
How do I safely connect a portable generator to my house?
Only through a properly installed transfer switch or a code-approved interlock with a generator inlet. These prevent the generator from feeding power back into the utility lines.
Never use a so-called suicide cord plugged into an outlet. Backfeeding can electrocute utility workers and neighbors, and can damage your home's wiring and the generator.
Can I install a Level 2 EV charger at home?
Usually, yes. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit, typically 40 to 60 amps depending on the charger, plus enough capacity in your panel and service.
We check the load, the panel space and the route to the parking spot first. Some homes need a panel upgrade or a load-management device before adding a charger.
What should I do if I smell burning from an outlet or the panel?
Turn off the breaker for that circuit, or the main breaker, if you can do it safely, then call an electrician. Don't use the outlet again until it has been checked.
If you see smoke or fire, get everyone out and call 911 from outside.
How do I check a Massachusetts electrician's license?
Use the state's online license search, run by the Division of Occupational Licensure for the Board of State Examiners of Electricians. Search by name or license number to see the license type, status and expiration.
Ryan Walker's journeyman license, 56058-EL-B, is listed there as current.
